Masters of the Universe (1987)

Yes.... the one you've all been waiting for I know, Masters of the Universe.  Check out the Masters of the Universe movie blog for lots of great pics and info.  The live-action 1987 version of the film was shot mostly in Whittier, California.

Some screenshots...

The gymnasium was located many miles away at a school in Venice.   (This same school was featured in Slumber Party Massacre.)

UPDATE!   Not sure why it took me so long to post these pictures of the house and neighborhood.  First up is Courtney Cox's house...

Screenshots....

And the neighborhood from the final scene...

Screenshots...

I loooove Evil-Lyn (Meg Foster)!

  1. Love this movie and have been to Whittier as well. A local shop keeper had a stash of MOTU posters for sale!

  3. Há maior parte dos locais não tinham sido destruídos por um terremoto nos anos 90.

    2. Translation: "Could show that were destroyed with current photos and the season, I'm curious your site seems to be the only one who can do this then consider my request please. Ps.: Thanks for answering my comment Robert and answer this when you can"

Not sure exactly what you're asking here...

  5. Any idea where to find the burger joint where Courtney Cox worked, or if it is even still standing? It has been used in a few other movies as well. You can spot it near the end of Smokey & The Bandit (even though a majority of that was filmed in Georgia), and it was also used for a scene in Christine (1983). The scene from Christine ended up on the cutting room floor, but you can see it on the DVD and blu-ray in the deleted scenes. I wouldn't be surprised if it were used in other movies as well.

    1. From what I can tell it was on Osborne Street and Foothill Blvd, although it was possible it was further up on Dronfield & Osborne.

    2. Wow, thanks for the info. Too bad it is no longer there. I tried to find it on historic aerials, but it's hard to tell what you're even looking at on those.

    4. The burger stand (I’m pretty sure) was a back lot building. Like the mobile buildings on the Universal Studios backlot. It was modeled after the old (60s-70s) Weiner Schnitzels with outdoor dining and covered drive-thru. Some even sported a car-hop style intercom and service. Last of the drive-ins before Sonic.

    5. It was actually a real place and used in a number of films including the beginning of Deadly Friend.

  9. Wonderful post. Last night, I watched Masters of the Universe again because it popped up on Netflix. Hadn't seen it in a couple of years but I thought it was a lot of fun. A lot more fun than I remembered.

Lovely to see the real locations of the flick.

  11. Hello MOTU fans !!
I was visiting my Uncle in LA
(Silverlake) in 1987 and saw the film at Westwood Cinema, nr UCLA. It was surreal seeing the film on the screen and right outside was the filming locations used in the film.
Bare in mind l was from Hammersmith, West London at the time.
I'm always reminded of my time in LA when l see MOTU on TV.
It may be a Big Universe out there but its a small world down here (at times).
Kind regards to All film fans,

    Marcus Hawkins.
