Mr. Mom (1983)

I had been looking for the Mr. Mom house off and on for a while.   Set in Detroit, the film was shot in Los Angeles with the exception of some establishing shots and stock footage.    With the house number in hand, I was able to track it down at 152 Greenfield Avenue right next to UCLA.   The house had one major renovation by adding a new quarter to the house, but otherwise looks the same....

As usual, my shots of the surrounding houses across the street that appear in the film...

The office is at 6th Street & Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles.  My lazy shoot-through-the-windshield pictures didn't turn out so well, so here's a google street-view shot for now....

Next up is her boss' mansion, also seen in Who's That Girl and other films....

The restaurant was a bit tougher to find as the name on the awning didn't yield any results, but I eventually tracked it down another way.  Unfortunately, during this particular visit, there was a big event going on, so getting good pictures wasn't to be had....

I was able to decipher the motel name across the street which led me to finding the right location.....

And finally, the house belonging to either Ann Jillian or Miriam Flynn is just a street over from the main house....

  1. Nice find. It's amazing how little has changed. The landscaping looks like it has barely changed at all in 30 years.

  2. Awesome, nice work. I always thought they were on location in Detroit, guess not. Crazy the house is the same down to the white picket fence. Classic movie.

  3. Awesome! My wife and I were just watching this and had always wondered what other films the Boss' mansion was in. Where is it located? And do you know what other films it was in?

    1. The mansion is at 1050 Arden Road in Pasadena. It's been used in quite a number of productions, but the only other one I've covered in my blog is for Who's That Girl.

    2. It was also the house for the judge on Hardcastle and McCormick. Charlie's Angels used it more than once.

  5. Wow! So the Chronicle Restaurant is gone? I ate there back in the 80's and was very excited as it was in Mr. Mom! Very good food and pretty upscale.

  8. You did a great job with this find!! Did the home owners let you look inside? I wonder if they tried to keep it like the movie to some degree.

  12. I'm surprised you left out the filming location in Detroit..when he arrives to work before being laid off, that white building outside of the parking garage is right downtown Detroit and isn't the auto factory on location in Detroit as well???
