Although I have yet to track down the location of the first house from the classic film, When A Stranger Calls, I was able to locate the house from the finale, although it has undergone much renovation and no longer recognizable.

UPDATE: Thanks to a reader's tip, I visited the doctor's house.

The babysitter herself, Carol Kane!
Man that's great! The house is unrecognizable! I remember watching this movie as a kid and being totally freaked out when you learn that the calls are coming from inside the house!
ReplyDeleteChris
Yeah, the only things really still recognizable are the window and overhead frames as well as the adjacent corner, they did some major renovation including adding a new garage.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to find the house that was used in the classic opening scene, which everyone seems to know about even if they never saw the movie. The only clues that I have is that it is/was in the Brentwood area of West Los Angeles, but may have been torn down and another house built in it's place or has been renovated beyond recognition. I want to say the former, because I have driven up and down the streets of Brentwood and couldn't locate it.
ReplyDeleteWhere that house is located?? Can you put a link for Google Map??
ReplyDelete2722 Club Drive in the Cheviot Hills area near Century City.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, i've just found that house on Google Map!! I was wondering for a long time 'where is that house located??' I have an answer now. You're lucky to have met Carol Kane, she does a great job in that movie, who is a classic.
ReplyDeleteThank a lot, i really like this movie.
ReplyDeleteAre you talking about the original house? Email me and I will check it out!
ReplyDeleteHi Robert, yeah I have been trying to locate the house from the opening shot of the movie, where Carol Kane is babysitting, and the only clues I have is that it is in Brentwood. It is a fairly distinguishable house, but not sure if it is still around or torn down, since a lot of the older houses in that neighborhood have been replaced by multi million dollar homes in the last 20 years. By the way the house that the doctor moves to five years later and Charles Durning goes to visit him is also in Brentwood at 472 N Barrington ave. I hope you can find the original house, Good Luck.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'll check the doctor's house out soon!
ReplyDeleteI’ve managed to work out the location of the original house. Unfortunately it was demolished in 2007 to make way for a new house.
ReplyDeleteThe address is 321 S Chadbourne Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90049
Unfortunately the earliest Google Street View shows the end of the demolition. The only picture I could find of the house is here.
As usual Paul, you continue to astound - thanks for the find!!
