Carrie (1976) new & revisited

Check out the all new CARRIE page at Set-Jetter.com!

Carrie is a masterpiece that should not have been remade, although it looks like they are going down that path again.   I've been to some locations before... click on the links to see the high school, pig farm, and the track & field.

This trip was my first visit to the location of Carrie's house... or rather where it was before it was bulldozed.   The houses next to it are the same and the owner  a couple doors down has some of the doors from the original house and was kind of enough to let me take some pictures....

The neighbor a couple houses down actually took a couple doors from Carrie's house before it was demolished...

Also in Santa Paula is the tree lined street where Carrie is taunted by a boy on a bike...

UPDATE:  Some shots at a revisit in April 2014....

I was excited for a new find in Santa Paula... the pharmacy and tuxedo store...

And on to the Palisades area for a return to Sue Snell's house...
See Paul H's find in the comments below for finding the actual location of the house - now demolished :(

And finally... a revisit to the pig farm, located in downtown LA...

    1. The movie was done by United Artists, how would it be on the Universal Studios lot???

    2. I LIVE IN SANTA PAULA A BLOCK FROM THAT HOUSE AND THEY DON'T MOVE HOUSES....if they wanted to do an interior shot without using the house, they could use the studio...but its cheaper to use real house interior..but it's up to the owner ...when you get 10,000$ A DAY for renting out your home, it's easy to say "cool, use the interior if you wish."

  2. No, the house was bulldozed quite a while ago unfortunately.

    1. The pig "farm" is not in downtown LA, it is in the city of Vernon, south of downtown. It is the Farmer John plant... they dont raise the pigs there, they are raised somewhere else and brought there to slaughter.

    2. Yikes, Mr. Touchy. Yes, it is technically not in Downtown LA, but just to the south of it. And it's called the "pig farm" because that's what it is called in the movie, not because that's what it is in actuality.

    3. Actually, it is called Farmer John's. I live in LA. Also, we could use far less of you in the photos.

    4. You are correct it is called Farmer John's as most Carrie fans know and as someone already said above. Now I'm tempted to photshop myself into every photo if I'm not in them already, thanks bdsm pupdon!

    1. At 10,000$ a day rental for the film, THEY COULD AFFORD to build a better house or just sell it...I live a block away from that corner today.

    2. Due to it being unsafe and people still brraking in etc. To those who grew up there it's not the same.

  5. The neighbor said the owners really let it go downhill to the point it was falling apart and was essentially abandoned, hence them salvaging the doors from the house.

    1. I think Carrie burned the house down, along with her mother and herself. After Carrie's funeral (Sue's dream), the construction crew would rather remediate the former lot and make it vacant.

    2. My Aunt was one of those neighbors. :)

  6. can you provide the address for Sue Snells house? I'm a HUGE "Carrie" fan.

  7. question, were where these doors? they are quite beautiful but Carrie's house seemed very war torn...

  8. The doors were part of the actual house, not the set. The neighbors just wanted to retrieve them before it was torn down.

  9. My aunt lived right next door to the Carrie house. I spent a lot of time on 6th and 7th st. My aunt was freaked out by all the ppl breaking in to the house.

    1. Don't know who you are, but my family has owned the neighboring house for 40 years and the other side of what used to be the Carrie house is and was a vacant lot. I know my mother was not "freaked" out by much of anything that happened at the Carrie house.

    2. Robert, I doubt the validity of anyone taking anything out of the Carrie house. I lived in the house you have posted; The one that was directly next door. When they tore down the Carrie house, no-one was notified. We woke up one morning to the sound of demolition. Watched it at first from the back window, then the front lawn. P.S. Mom would love it if you removed that photo of her house.

  10. The final scene where Carrie's house burns to the ground, I watched them burn down a small-scale model house which they built on an open lot on Langdon Avenue near Parthenia St. in Sepulveda. Originally they were planning to film a scene where small rocks would rain down onto the house from the sky just prior to the fire but the big crane they had setup above the house got jammed so they decided not to use that scene.

  11. That’s a dead ringer for Sue Snell’s house and I hate correcting people but that isn’t the one. The correct house was demolished in 2006 to make way for a new build.

The address is 773 Amalfi Dr, Pacific Palisades, CA

The only picture I could find is here.

  16. Hey Robert, my family owns the house you have posted. That one that is nextdoor to the vacant lot on 7th where the Carrie house used to be. We would appreciate it if you would remove the photo. Thank you.

    1. The neighbor I was talking to lived a couple houses down and allowed me to take photos of the door; not the immediate neighbor.

    2. Why has the lot remained empty all these years?

    3. Good question - someone needs to rebuild the house there!

  17. Carrie (the 1976 classic, of course)is one of my favorite films of all. I'm addicted to it. So obviously, I find all these photos highly entertaining. Thank you for sharing and great job, Robert. PS How in the world could they have torn Sue Snell's home down? I loved that house. Broke my heart when I read that.
