The Last Starfighter boasted some of the first CGI in the movies... and yes, it didn't look too hot back then and looks even worse now. But the story is fun and it has a great cast....
Just outside of Vaszquez Rocks you can find the location for the earth portion of the film...

Great job tracking down the Rio Cafe. I have been looking for this location. It was also used as Buck's Grab N Go in the film "The Devil's Rejects".

My buddy, Dom, actually lead me to the location for this visit... it's at 9411 Soledad Canyon Road in Acton, CA.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at your tunnel photo once more, I don't believe that you captured the correct tunnel shown in the screen grab. The details of the tunnel in the screen grab resemble more of the Figueroa Street Tunnels which is a set of four tunnels that link the northbound 110 to the 5 fwy. That tunnel on Soledad, however, I have spotted in "Duel" and "It's A Mad, Mad...World".

You are correct, I've also heard a couple other possibilities as well.
ReplyDeleteNice pics Robert. Don't know if any of this is still around but if it is I'm gonna be in that area soon. Thanks again for all your great pics!!!
