American Dreamer (1984)

Besides Poltergeist, this is my favorite Jobeth Williams film.  (I don't see her enough nowadays.)   Although much of the film takes place in Paris, it starts out with her family house, which is located in Long Beach.   Two years later, this house will become better known as Ferris Bueller's home...

  1. My thanks for the confirmation. I'm easily watching American Dreamer for the 100th time and I don't ever remember noticing it was the Bueller house before. Which seems so implausible. But it's just as implausible as the fact that I don't remember ever noticing before now, that one of Kevin's golf buddies is the Motorist from Clue. And yet, I feel like I'd have remembered noticing that before, but I don't.

It's just that wonderful a movie I guess. A truly underappreciated film, both in terms of just being a fun mystery which never takes itself too seriously - it does remind me of Clue and Murder by Death in that way - and being one hell of a love story to boot.
