Pee Wee's Big Adventure (1985)

Pee Wee's house is located in Pasadena... and looks pretty drab in comparison to the movie...

Here is Francis' house....

And of course the finale of the film takes place at Warner Bros. studios....

  2. You've missed the best scene of all! When Pee Wee visits the big dinosaurs! Those are in Cabazon, CA. I grew up about 20 minutes from there and was thrilled by them, especially after connecting the dots as a kid and realizing they were used in one of my favorite movies. Maybe that is what started my love for finding movie locations. ;)

  3. Ah, that is always on my "to do" list, but is a bit far away during my usual LA excursions!

    1. There is an Indian casino just down the road, with a hotel. Play some blackjack, hit the buffet. I'm guessing they've shot a movie or 2 in Palm Springs and or Joshua tree. If nothing else I'm almost positive they shot "Grand Theft Parsons" there.

  4. Do you have the address of francis's house? And how do you go about getting a tour of warner bros studios to see the pet store?

  5. Francis' house is at 412 S Hudson Ave. The Warner Bros. tour is easy to sign up for, visit http://vipstudiotour.warnerbros.com/

  6. Hi there. Your pic of the Pet Shop from the WB Tour is incorrect. That's the wrong corner shop (but you did manage to show a Chinatown location from the opening of 'Gremlins.') The Pet Shop is actually located on another corner about a block away from the one you show. It still exists and is now the location for the shoe store in TV's "Harry's Law."

  7. Fixed, anonymous. I've been to WB many times, but got sloppy when I uploaded by looking at those tiny pics!

  8. Also, the Alamo shots (interior scenes and courtyard scene) are at the San Fernando Mission in the SF Valley. Very easy to stop by. Also, the scenes he is hitchhiking with Mikey are the Old Road in Santa Clarita/Valencia.

The park ride scene is the Equestrian Center in Burbank.

The scenes where he jumps on and off the train are Oxnard.

The Mall scene is the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, of course it looks a little different now and was called the Santa Monica Mall back then.

The scene at the beginning where he is racing in the Tour de France is King's Ranch in Calabasas.

  9. Forgot, the rodeo scene and the scene where Andy chases him in the Fiesta are the LA Fairgrounds in Pomona.

Regarding the scene where Mickey and Pee-Wee drive next to the bike and then drive away, that is actually the Old Road & Calgrove right next to the 5 in Valencia.

The scene at the bus terminal is Grand Central Station in Burbank (right on the border of Glendale) and was actually LA's first airport. Also the location where Casablanca was shot. It is now closed. 10 years ago you could walk right up to it, but because of stupid squatters and vandalism there is now a big fence surrounding the property.

Also, the location of the shots of the car flying off the cliff were done at the Sunshine Canyon Landfill in the NW corner of the SF Valley in the Newhall Pass area right where the 5/210 interchange is. You can smell it from the freeway sometimes, too!

I used to know the location of the drive-in theater at the end, but can't remember now. It was in LA somewhere. I do know that it was demolished in the late 80's/early 90's, though.

  10. Where is the biker bar?? Someone posted that it was the Halfway House Cafe. That is wrong. Any ideas?

  11. I believe it is the Mi Tierra Cafe around 17533 Sierra Hwy in Santa Clarita.

    1. It is at the corner of Milan and Oxley, nearly across the street from his house. I'll be working on a new page for the movie at Set-Jetter.com soon!
