UPDATE:  While we were by the prop department at Universal Studios yesterday, I couldn't help but notice the big grocery cart from the movie!   I had seen this prop 25 years ago while on the tour, but this time I got to see it up close...

One of Lily Tomlin's best movies, The Incredible Shrinking Woman, tells the incredible but true story of Pat Kramer....  For a previous post highlighting some of the movie's props, click here.

Here is the grocery store that is featured in several scenes, both at the beginning (hence the cheeze whiz) and the finale.  Not much has changed inside or out.  I tracked this down in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles....

The "institute" I just happened to fall upon when visiting it for another location in Pasadena...

Although many websites said that the Tasty Meadows neighborhood was also filmed in Eagle Rock, I could not find it anywhere.   I decided the houses looked a bit like the Brady Bunch house, so I thought I would search that area, and there it was!    The street is a very small circle, and each house is featured as Pat drives home....

Carrie (1976) new locations

While the majority of the high school was shot in Hermosa Beach, the outside field was up in a Pacific Palisades school, which many films use.   This area was seen extensively when gym teacher, Betty Buckley, forced the girls to detention on the field and when Amy Irving first started to talk to her boyfriend, William Katt, by the bleachers...

Carrie's house was located in Santa Paula, California, but is no longer there, just an empty lot.  The other exterior scene shot in the town was Cameron Depalma taunting Sissy Spacek with his bike (Creepy Carrie, Creepy Carrie, ha ha!).    Not quite worth the drive up there.

Poltergiest II: The Other Side (1986)

Although nothing tops the original, Poltergeist II was a decent sequel and was able to retain the majority of the cast. 

Here is grandma's house where the family lived for most of the movie.  I tracked this location down in Altadena.   And yes, my friend James convinced me to go up on the porch!

The Facts Of Life

Although seen only fleetingly in the opening credits, "Eastland" is actually a small school in Claremont, California.  Although the shrubbery has changed a bit, you can't miss this exterior from The Facts Of Life tv series.

Meredith Baxter's best role... ever!   Although it is supposed to take place in San Diego, I was able to track down one of the houses in the Pacific Palisades...

And just yards away is this beautiful view of the ocean....

Tron (1982)

The beloved Tron... while there is only a handful of "real life" locations in the movie, the most recognizable one is Flynn's arcade.  They didn't use this location for the new Tron: Legacy, but built a new facade...
